Black Birds

 



Black Birds – Black Birds are the intermediaries of the Five Worlds. Earth, Chaos, Purgatory, The Abyss and Nod.

They move between the different supernatural creatures as neutral figures. Crows, Ravens, Magpies and Rookes. Magpies are the thieves, reappropriating goods. The Rookes are the tellers of stories. The Ravens are the messengers between worlds and the Crows carry spirits between worlds.

Fox Meridian, from the Crow bloodline, is being asked for help by an old friend. Someone is hunting the Nephilim, children of humans and angels, now that the local archangel Orien has been called away. (His ‘first case’ in the series.)

Meanwhile, the Balance of the Gates is breaking. Orien has been called away to help watch over the Gate of the North, which bars the road to Nod, allowing the restless dead to enter Earth.

Two Gates have been abandoned. One Gate Keeper having gone insane, and another having relinquished his faith in humanity. Leaving the doors to Purgatory and Nod unguarded.

Fox decides that he will try to find the broken pieces of the Gate to Nod, to begin resealing the gates.

(In his second case, he is called in on a ‘hit’ in a major city. He learns that the Mafia is now using supernatural creatures to take care of their street wars. The break down of the Gates has led to conjurers and magi to be able to control more supernatural creatures and use them at their will.)

 Fox kept tapping his pack of cigarettes against the counter. “You know, tapping it on the counter longer doesn't make more cigarettes magically appear,” Knox said. “There's a first time for everything,” Fox replied, crumpling up the pack and tossing it into the trashcan next to the bar.
